Lesson details

Beer is one of the oldest human inventions, with records of the first brews dating as far back as 7000BC. But while beer may have originated in ancient Sumer (the southernmost region of ancient Mesopotamia), today the beverage is almost synonymous with Germany.

Beer is an integral part of German culture, which is why it’s no surprise that Germany is home to the biggest beer festival in the world. Oktoberfest brings millions of people from around the world to Bavaria to partake in the annual celebration of all things beer, a tradition which started back in 1810!

In this lesson for bartenders and servers, Sebastian Priller takes you on a journey through German beer history and gives you an insight into modern German beer culture. As the head brewer at Riegele, Sebastian is continuing his family’s brewing legacy, which started back in 1386 when Riegele was established.
